Upper secondary school students in Iceland, who do not receive a loan from The Icelandic Student Loan Fund (LÍN), are entitled to scholarships to balance out the cost of their studies, pending certain conditions. A general condition for receiving these scholarships is that the student attends school far away from their legal domicile and their immediate family, i.e. parents/guardians. The following scholarships are available:
Housing costs scholarships- for students who must list live away from their legal domiciles and families because of school.
Transportation scholarships- for students attending a school that is far away from their legal domicile and family.
All scholarship applications must be submitted by 15 October. The deadline for students only applying for the spring/summer semester is 15 February. It is possible to accept applications after the deadline, but 1% of the total amount will be deducted for each day that the application is late. The right to apply for a scholarship ends four months after the advertised deadline.
LÍN accepts scholarship applications and process them. For more details and application forms see the following link: http://www.lin.is/jofnunarstyrkur/um_jofnunarstyrk.html
